Syfy has announced the lead of its newest original scripted series Defiance - the plum role will be played by Grant Bowler. The futuristic drama, from Farscape creator Rockne S. O’Bannon, is set on a war-ravaged and alien-terraformed planet where humans and those aliens live together in a tenuous environment. Bowler will play Jeb Nolan, the sheriff of a bustling frontier town, one of the few places on the planet where the two species manage to co-exist peacefully. The character also happens to be a former Marine, who lost his wife and child in the alien conflict before an accord was reached.
