Two incredible pieces of casting news happened yesterday. First up: the Dowager Countess is going to have a new combatant on Downton Abbey next season, and her name is Shirley MacLaine! The Oscar-winning icon will play the newly-written character of Martha Levinson, the American mother to Lady Cora Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern) in Season 3 of the period drama. Look for even more deliciously vicious lines from Violet (Maggie Smith) when she first appears.
